TMS & Other Treatment Options

Learn About TMS & How It Can Help You

If you’re currently in therapy or on medication for depression, OCD, or anxiety, this video is for you. Many people ask, “How does TMS work alongside with my current therapy or medication?”

And we’re going to break that down for you. TMS makes physical changes to the brain. It changes the way that your cells communicate with each other and the different connections between pathways in your brain.

Talk therapy can help with things like mindset reframing and reacting to life stresses appropriately. Even if it hasn’t worked before, the way that TMS remodels the pathways in the brain can make talk therapy even more effective after treatment, which is why it’s essential to continue with your current mental health provider.

Working closely with your mental health provider in the weeks and months following TMS can make the most out of the changes that your brain has undergone during TMS treatment. And that’s why talk therapy and TMS are essential parts of your care plan.

Sometimes TMS can help people come off of any medications that they are on. But that is not always the case. We work closely alongside your existing care plan and we are not changing one thing out for another on day one.

Our goal is to make sure you’re feeling the way that you want to feel. Sometimes that can be TMS or medications on their own. Often times it’s them working together. They are two different approaches to the same problem.

Medications work systemwide. You take a pill and it affects your entire brain chemistry and other parts of your body as well, which can sometimes lead to unwanted side effects. TMS is a very focused treatment with minimal side effects during and after treatment.

TMS doesn’t involve any long-term prescriptions or new medications added to your body or system. Because they work in different ways, TMS can help even if medications previously haven’t.

TMS and medications also don’t compete with each other, which is why our staff will never recommend changing your medications on day one. If your goal is to eventually come off of medications because you don’t like the side effects or you don’t like the long-term prescriptions, our team can help you manage that transition safely over time with a licensed provider.

In short, TMS works alongside with your current care plan, whether that be talk therapy, medications, or both. If you have any questions at all about what care plan and next steps are right for you, reach out to our team and we will get you in touch with our provider. We look forward to talking with you soon.
